Have you ever walked into a room and had an aroma take you back to your grandma’s kitchen, your childhood home, or your first car? This is your olfactory memory. Smell is strongly linked to past events, people, and places.
After passing some hydrogen sulfide in the bathroom as a result of French onion soup, my husband (who grew up on a dairy farm) walked in and commented, “It smells like the barn in here.” I’m so happy my flatulence brought him comfort in a childhood memory.
