I will just jump right in:

  • The temperature was above freezing at least 3 days this week, and today was 50 and sunny!
  • Euchre with friends last Friday night
  • Mrs. Williams’ yummy cheesecake
  • Mellow Mushroom pretzels
  • A sleepover with our grandson last night (Saturday)
  • Seeing reminders around the house of our grandson having spent the night (bath toys, his scent on our clothes and in the air, smudges, a piece of banana stuck to the chair, etc.)

Apparently, Valentine’s Day is another holiday that is becoming self-centered. Remember the Christmas commercials with the message that you should give yourself a gift, because you deserved a new car or some other extravagant item? As I searched for the perfect Valentine’s Day card for my sweet hubby, I came across cards that sounded like this:

  1. Outside of card: “I put together a cute butt, beautiful eyes, and warm smile
  2. Inside of card:  “And I got Me. Aren’t you lucky?”

  1. Outside of card: “You are so sweet to get me chocolates and flowers for Valentine’s Day”
  2. Inside of card:  “Because I so deserve it!”

  1. Outside of card: “I couldn’t decide what to get for the man who has everything”
  2. Inside of card: “After all, you have Me”

Really? What is this world coming to? I guess, according to the message being put out, it is coming to me.

Olfactory Memory

Have you ever walked into a room and had an aroma take you back to your grandma’s kitchen, your childhood home, or your first car? This is your olfactory memory. Smell is strongly linked to past events, people, and places.

After passing some hydrogen sulfide in the bathroom as a result of French onion soup, my husband (who grew up on a dairy farm) walked in and commented, “It smells like the barn in here.” I’m so happy my flatulence brought him comfort in a childhood memory.

Favorites of Last Week

Here are my favorites from last week:

  • Spending ice storm and power outage with my husband, son, and son’s friend
  • Being outside in the beautiful sunshine for a whole day on Thursday, even if it was while I was breaking up ice on the front walk
  • Spending a couple of hours on Sunday breaking up ice on the driveway with my husband, what a team!
  • Watching the satisfaction on my husband’s face as the Packers won the Super Bowl
  • Celebrating my grandson’s first birthday
  • Getting a video message of my grandson giggling and repeatedly falling down (would show it to you, but WordPress will not download the format)

Digging Out: End of Day 1

End of day one, and the ice won. I thought I would at least get the entire front walk done, but my back gave out around 4:00 p.m. The sun, not son, helped; the son had school. Unfortunately the solar heat melted ice on the roof, and the downspout is on the corner where the front walk begins, so the little space I cleared there filled with water and is now slicker than it was with the original ice. Maybe a spare floor mat would help keep people from slipping.

I was still able to run three miles around 5:30. I know, crazy, right? And thanks to department of transportation, the roads were clean enough that I could run outside. I stretched really well and took a few laps around the kitchen, dining room, and living room. If swimming helps my sore shoulder, then maybe running would feel okay for my back. It did feel okay running, but I can’t bend down, pick something up, and turn. Oh darn, I  can’t pick up the laundry basket or the vacuum. Well, off to Starbucks for a little reward!

Almost There!
